I'm sad to hear about Mr. Stomper. Sorry for your loss.
My grandfather lived next door to the bakery for ever. I was a little boy and we would go to my grandpa's house a lot and he was very good friends with Mr. Stomper. We used to go into the bakery and got to walk behind the counter and see the bread being made. Of course, we got samples. I can still remember the the taste and feel of the bread. The outside was very hard with a soft interior. My dad would buy many loafs and us kids would eat it all the time.
I think my grandpa or father would ask for the recipe but he would not give it up:-)))) I would love to taste that bread again!!
Again, sorry for your loss.
Peter

I’m sorry for your loss. What great memories we have of your parents and their businesses.
You were fortunate to have your dad for so many years. Many of us wish we still had our parents with us.
We live our lives knowing we were raised by good people—the “greatest generation” some say. For those grieving the most, persevere, it is true that “time heals all wounds.”

Paul and Family,
Please accept our condolences for loss of your father. I grew up on Clifton Avenue and had to pass the bakery every morning on the way to school. The smell of fresh baked bread permeated the air.

The rest of the ride home was always filled with eager expectation after my father routinely stopped at Stomper's Bakery and bought a a large loaf of freshly baked rye bread!
Rest assured that none ever got stale or more than a day old!
How grateful I am for those many treats and the warm memories still vividly associated with them! Thank you!!!

Dear Paul and family,
Sorry to see this but what a wonderful life he had, to the ripe age of 97. He was a great man, always friendly and happy. We went back to my days at Southside Deli when we were almost neighbors and saw each other often. I always teased him, like many others, about getting his rye bread recipe. I also enjoyed seening him at the Vetrans home when I visited my dad there. There's a new baker in Heaven!
Peace and love,

Dear Patti, Paul and Stomper family. My deepest sympathies to both of you and your family. Your Dad and Mom were such wonderful people and I have such fond memories of Stomper's bakery on the corner of Ellicott and Swan Streets. The rogalki's, rye bread and donuts were the best in Batavia ever!! People like your Dad was what made Batavia and the southside of Batavia so great!! I can still remember the wonderful smell of the coffee cake, donuts and rogalki's on a Sunday morning's going with my Grandfather Ted there after church at Sacred Heart. Batavia isn't the same city like it was back in the 1960's and early 1970's, but the memories I have live on. May the love and peace of God be with all of you during this difficult time. Sincerely Yours, Joe Perkowski.

I grew up in Batavia and remember buying the "rye bread" from Mr. Stomper. He had the best bread around!
My condolences on his passing.
