Willie was truly one of a kind. I so looked up to him in my younger years when I saw him frequently. I still remember the time when I was very young on Main St in Elba when my puppy ran out in traffic because he saw me on the other side of the road. My parents owned the hardware store and had let him out not realizing I was across the road. He died instantly, but in those few seconds Willie ran to me and scooped me up and moved me away from the sight of my puppy. It's odd in life the things you suddenly remember or don't forget when you can't remember why you walked into a room.
One of my fondest memories of Willie was when he owned the bar in Batavia. I had moved away for several years but returned for my Sr. year. I graduated at 17 and the legal drinking age was 18. I thought I was out smarting Willie by visiting the bar weekly without issues. On my 18th birthday, Willie brought out a cake and on top was the #18. He had remembered how old I was all along and let me go on thinking was I getting one over on him. I was shocked when I saw the #18 and he just smiled that smile and walked away!
When he managed Heverons in Batavia, he'd get in that silly mood from time to time and start singing the song Strokin at the top of his lungs. Yep once again, I could do nothing more but smile.
He had such an infectious smile and OH that laugh! It made me smile and I never ever will forget it, or Willie. The entire McGill family are exceptional people and we should all take stock in the huge heart Willie had.
I love you Willie and have always looked up to you as a brother. Fly high with my Mom. I'm sure she's looking forward to seeing you again.

My condolences to all of Willie's family and friends. Willie was a very special person. Over 20 years ago while at Hevron's my husband, Mike was choking on food. Willie gave him the Heimlich maneuver which saved his life. I would not have shared my life with Mike and had my kids today without the act that Willie performed. I will never forget him and be forever grateful for his acts of kindness. It is amazing how someone's simple act can impact the future. Thank you Willie for everything in my life today. You will be missed.

I worked for Willie at The Lion's Den for many years while my son was in grade school. We grew very close to him, and when I remarried and moved to a different job, we were sad to not see him very often. Whenever we did, however, he would scoop me up, laugh that warm, huge laugh of his, and tell me he missed us, ask how we were, and never once had a complaint about his own ailments. I truly admire him, respect him, and will miss him dearly. We at one time were close to Dorsie and his kids, as well, and to them and all who loved Willie, we send our sincere condolences on your profound loss. You're in our hearts and in our prayers.

I first met Willie when he was married to Ruth. She and I worked together at the Holiday Inn in the restaurant. I always remembered him as a very positive, kind and wonderful man who was devoted to Ruth. She was so in love with him and he of her. You described him well as a "gentle giant." I am so sorry that life was cut so short for him. My condolences to you and your family.

My heart is heavy today. I have so many wonderful memories of Wilie. He was the friendliest, kindest man I've ever met. Many fantastic times spent at Heverons. From Bills games to dart league, to the cookouts we so enjoyed out back. He always made sure everyone was happy. He once caught me mid flight when I passed out at Old Country Buffet . I will miss you Willie. I hadn't seen you in many years, but you were and always will be in my thoughts, and those memories I will carry with me till we meet again. Rest In Peace my friend

My deepest sympathy to the Family and dear Friends of Willie. I have known him most of my life. Been friends way back to when they lived on Pekin Rd. I also attended Elba school with the whole McGill family. Willie and my brother Carl were dear friends for many, many years. I can remember him coming to our house and whenever my brother would pick on me; like brothers often do, Willie would stand up for me. He was a wonderful man. And I will never forget his big smile or that laugh. When he laughed the world laughed. I will remember him with fond memories. Be at Peace my dear friend!
